Research and Impact Activities:
A new research project entitled Aligning Migration Management and the Migration-Development Nexus' (MIGNEX) is now underway. The project aims to connect two distinct policy fields: how migration is regulated, and how migration and development affect each other. This research will be carried out in 25 communities across ten countries in Africa, the Middles East and Asia.
Research and Impact Activities - Publications:
In November, COMPAS Researcher Esther Arenas-Arroyo published a powerful and timely journal article entitled Immigration Enforcement and Children's Living Arrangements with Catalina Amuedo-Dorantes. They have also written a chapter in the book The Human and Economic Implications of Twenty-First Century Immigration Policy on Understanding the Consequences of Heightened Immigration Enforcement discussing how enforcement measures in the US are impacting immigrant communities.
Finding Your Way - 2018 COMPAS Photo Competition:
In October, Deputy Director of COMPAS Nicholas Van Hear wrote a blog entitled Furthering Refugia: Engaging with our Critics that revisits the concept of 'Refugia' that he and Robin Cohen developed three years ago. In this informative blog, Nicholas addresses some of the key critiques they have received on the concept and proposes what the reality of Refugia, a future transnational polity created and governed by refugees, migrants and supportive citizens, could look like.
The School of Economics and Finance, QMUL and COMPAS are jointly organising a conference on Forced Displacement, Asylum Seekers and Refugees: Economics Aspects and Policy Issues that will be held at Queen Mary University of London on 18-19 March 2019.
This term we have welcomed several new staff including Marie Mallett-Garcia who has joined COMPAS as a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Researcher working on migration from Latin America. On the Communications team we have welcomed Rosaleen Cunningham as the new COMPAS Communications Manager and Alexis Still as COMPAS Communications and Administrative Assistant.
