Migration Studies Society

The Oxford Migration Studies Society (OMSS) is a University Society that aims to connect people in Oxford examining any facet of migration. Society members include students and researchers from the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), and other specialists in  a range of disciplines, including anthropology, politics, history, geography, and sociology.

By organizing and hosting social events, publicizing and promoting scholarship in Migration Studies, and conducting outreach among students, professionals, and academics, the Oxford Migration Studies Society seeks to establish an innovative and thriving platform through which individuals can engage in meaningful research and studies at Oxford, and beyond.

CfP – Annual Oxford Migration Conference “Borders and Justice”

The Oxford Migration Studies Society, the Migration and Mobility Network and Border Criminologies invite academics, researchers, activists, artists, practitioners, and other stakeholders to present original research, case studies, work, and other insights during the conference Borders and Justice which will take place from 10 – 15 May 2021 on Zoom.

The conference will be held over the course of the week, with one panel per day. We invite 10-15 minute presentations that speak to the broader conference theme and that are related to at least one of the subtopics presented below:

  • Border Histories, (Im)Moral Foundations
  • Borderlines, Bordering and Border Diffusion
  • Border Discrimination
  • Technologies of Border Control
  • Detention, Encampment
  • Criminalisation and Crimmigration
  • Impact of Covid-19 (Public Health Justice)
  • Current Resistance and Future Alternatives

Abstracts (250 words max. 5 keywords) specifying your contribution should be sent to omssconference2021@gmail.com by 20 March. Please specify if your paper falls within one of the subtopics above. Please indicate in the application your time zone and ideally dates you are available between the 10 and 15 May.
