Xi is a DPhil student in Migration Studies. Her research is focused on the pattern of governance in area which practices both socialism and capitalism. For doctoral project, her study aims to fill a gap in the literature concerning multi-level governance structure and policy coordination approaches of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in China and improve upon previous governance theories, to establish a governance structure to promote economic, social and political sustainability of cities within GBA, and to create a pathway for all residents and civil societies to participating fully in regional planning and governance. The research will be guided by and will seek to advance phenomenological approaches to place-making and spatial complexity.
Prior to her DPhil study in Oxford, she worked as an urban planner for projects of urban regeneration and regional planning. She has also completed an MSc in Urban Strategies and Design in the University of Edinburgh, and holds a BA(Hons) in Urban and Environment Planning from the Sheffield Hallam University.
