Biography
Paolo Velásquez is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), where he works on the project EqualStrength. In this project, his main area of investigation is perceptions of discrimination, lived experiences, and support for different policies among ethnic minorities in nine European countries.
Before joining COMPAS, Paolo held postdoctoral positions at the Stockholm School of Economics and the Institute for Future Studies. He has a PhD in Sociology from Umeå University. His dissertation focused on the effect of education on inter-ethnic attitudes. He also holds an MSc. in Applied Social Research from Stockholm University and a B.A. in Sociology from The City College of New York.
Paolo’s research interests lie primarily in immigration, ethnic relations, prejudice, stigma, and integration. He is also interested in the history of sociology, social theory, and languages. His work has been published in journals such as the European Sociological Review, the British Journal of Sociology, and Ethnic and Racial Studies.
