Gilda Borriello DPhil in Migration Studies

Gilda is a DPhil student in Migration Studies based at COMPAS. She is particularly interested in the interdisciplinary nature of migration studies and intersection between economics, sociology, anthropology, geography and area studies. She lately became interested in forced migration-related research. Her research focuses on the link between refugee entrepreneurship and integration in host countries by analysing displaced Syrians in Jordan and Turkey through both quantitative and qualitative lenses.

Gilda is also a consultant for the World Bank, where supports a program targeting refugees and host municipalities in the Middle East managed by the Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI). Passionate about migration and the Middle East, she holds a Bachelor degree in International Relations with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, a Summer School degree in International Politics from the London School of Economics, and a Master Degree in Development Studies from the University of Bologna, where she defended a thesis on the Mediterranean migration and integration. Gilda likes travelling, music and photography, she is fluent in Italian, English, and French, and has a basic knowledge of Arabic and Spanish.
