Overview

On World Refugee Day (20 June 2024), COMPAS will host a launch event for a new World Bank report entitled 'Refugee Employment: Perspectives for Businesses, Policymakers and Intermediaries'.

This study analyses why businesses hire refugees before outlining a framework for key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to collaborate to boost refugee employment in host societies.

The event will consist of two 1-hour sessions:

Session 1 will present the report's main findings. It will hone in on the business case for hiring refugees, illustrated by case examples of businesses interviewed. Stakeholders representing the private sector, academia, and development will then be invited to offer remarks.

Session 2 will feature a panel discussion spotlighting Ukrainian refugee employment in Europe. Panelists will represent refugees, policymakers, and the private sector and discuss the economic and social outcomes of policy decisions made since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
