A study of immigrant doctors’ experience of working in the UK shows that their needs are being ignored, say Hiranthi Jayaweera and Helen McCarthy
The NHS has a long history of recruiting overseas workers, and currently more than a third of doctors working in the United Kingdom received their primary medical qualification abroad. The number of migrant doctors is increasing—between 2010 and 2013 there was an increase of 19% in the number of European Union (EU) graduates and a 2.8% increase in the number of non-EU graduates.
