This special issue of the Journal of Baltic Studies investigates the social relations, material practices, and discursive representations that constitute the contemporary Latvian countryside. The issue emerged out of an interdisciplinary project at the University of Latvia (LU) entitled Changing Development Strategies and Cultural Spaces of Latvias Rural Inhabitants, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
