Health

COMPAS’ work on migration and health has mainly focused on access to health care services and the health implications of restricting access on the basis of immigration status.

We have also run a number of projects on social care, a sector where public policies create demand for migrant workers. The shortages of social-care workers and care assistants are largely due to the low wages and poor working conditions. Constraints in local authority budgets have contributed to chronic underinvestment, which has contributed to a growing demand for low-waged, flexible workers.
