Mobility is multi-dimensional. Mobility can be social, spatial, and political. While movement from one country to another is the typical framing of “mobility,” the ephemeral nature of borders mean a person can move from one country to another without moving in space. Movement up or down through class structures can be an indirect a result of geographical relocation, or of staying put of and many of the processes of movement – whether physical or social – are far more complex and nuanced than the movement of people from a place that is “home” to a place that plays “host”.

The Mobility and Immobility forum will explore the many aspects of “movement” that shape our societies and the spaces they occupy.
