Rūta has completed MA in Social Anthropology at Vytautas Magnus University and is currently pursuing her PhD. Her doctoral thesis is titled, Thinking behind the numbers: A test case for identifying and understanding factors of national cultural resistance that hinder integration of refugees. Her PhD research will provide evidence for adopting a wider multi-theoretical frame of analysis and interpretation that takes into account both social systems, including the media and citizens as active agents in the construction of “cultural models” of different “others” among refugees. Ruta’s other research interests include variations in poverty across communities, cultural diversity, the consumer society, the impact of technologicy on society, kinship and sustainable development. Rūta is a member of Lithuanian Society of Young Researchers, Lithuanian Association of Anthropologists, the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) at Stanford University and European Council for Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers.
