Kevin is Assistant Professor in Media & Culture at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. He obtained an MA in History from KU Leuven (2008) and a PhD in Film Studies and Visual Culture (2013) from the University of Antwerp. He has been a visiting scholar at several institutes including the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London), Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) and Bilgi University Istanbul (Turkey). He studies intersections between media, conflict and migration and has worked, among others, on the film culture of Turkish and Moroccan diaspora communities in Belgium, the role of transnational media in the Kurdish conflict, the media use of Syrian and media representations of migration.
Kevin is the vice-chair of the Diaspora, Migration & Media division of the European Communication Research & Education Association (ECREA) and was selected in 2017 as a member of the Young Academy of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and Arts. At the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, he teaches courses on visual culture, film and television studies and media and diversity.
