Dikmen Yakali-Çamoğlu holds BA (Western Languages and Literatures) and MA (History) degrees from Boğaziçi University, Turkey. She received her PhD in Cultural Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK. Dikmen has taught courses on the history of western civilization, cultural theory, gender, and communication theories since 2005 and she became an Associate Professor of Communication Studies in 2014.
Her project on gender and love which she started with ID-Net in 2010 has recently evolved into the foundation of the “International Society for the Study of Gender and Love” during the 2017 Conference held by the University of Aarhus in Denmark and Dikmen was elected as the President of the Society.
In her current research project in COMPAS she focuses on and explores the self-narratives of the members of the Turkish diaspora in UK and seeks to find out the ways the immigrants “narrate” their migration stories to others, to their families and children.
