Tilmann Heil is a DPhil candidate in Social and Cultural Anthropology at Oxford and a doctoral research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen, Germany.

Tilmann studied geography, history and political sciences at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, and holds a MPhil in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford (2008). On the basis of fieldwork in Catalonia (Spain), he worked on social networks of migrants from the Senegambia region.

Tilmann’s current research in Catalonia and the Casamance, Senegal, focuses on migrants’ concepts, practices, and transnational experiences of diversity and conviviality (convivencia). Related research interests are in integration, transnationalism, migration and development, and European migration policy.
