Marshall Van Valen is pursuing a DPhil in Anthropology at ISCA and COMPAS on the incorporation of mixed immigrant flows in West and Central Africa. 

His MPhil research relates to the processes of inclusion and exclusion of West African immigrants in Côte d'Ivoire. He earned an MA in African studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, focusing on politics and government in West and Central Africa. He earned a BA from Georgetown University with a specialisation in international law and politics.
