Leslie is working on her DPhil in Social Anthropology. Her research focuses on transnational African Kenyan migrants and their families living in London and Nairobi. She is interested in how Kenyan migrants create, sustain and/ or negotiate their family ties in the United Kingdom and Kenya and, in turn, in what family relations and practices can tell us about migration and transnationalism more broadly.
She has a BA in Sociology and Anthropology with a concentration in Women’s Studies from Middlebury College and an MPhil in Social Anthropology from Oxford University. Before returning to ISCA in 2008, Leslie worked on health, immigrant, and women's human rights issues for seven years in New York City, most recently focusing on anti-poverty issues among New York City's diverse immigrant communities.
