
Bastian Vollmer is a Research Officer at COMPAS. He is currently working on irregular migration in the United Kingdom with focus on quantitative data and paths into irregularity. He is also involved in a comparative study of three transit countries (Ukraine, Turkey, and Morocco) as well as in a report on ethics of researching irregular migration.
Bastian is a PhD fellow at the Institute of Migration and Ethnic Studies (IMES), University van Amsterdam, where he is completing his PhD. His thesis examines the logics for legislative control systems of (irregular) immigration and its evolutions between 1973 - 1999. A discourse analysis at a formal policy-making level will compare Germany and the United Kingdom.
He was educated in London (BA Hons.) and Cambridge (M.Phil). He worked for 2 1/2 years at the Berlin Institute for Comparative Social Research (BIVS) where he conducted two research projects funded by the European Commission. Since 2005, he is a member of the research network IMISCOE.
