Fiona Williams is Emeritus Professor of Social Policy at the University of Leeds and Honorary Professor at the Social Policy Research Centre at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Fiona was previously COMPAS’ link with ESRC Resources Board and since then has maintained a close connection to COMPAS’ work. Most recently has been consulted on research proposals related to the ethics of care work.
Fiona was Director of the ESRC CAVA Research Group on Care, Values and the Future of Welfare and Co-Director for the Centre for International Research on Care Labour and Equalities at Leeds University.
Fiona is a Fellow of the British Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, and a member of the Academy of the Social Sciences. She was a member of the Social Policy sub-panel in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, and from 2006 to 2010 a member of the ESRC’s Strategic Research Board. She was awarded an OBE in 2004. Until recently she was a co-editor of Social Politics, and now sits on its board.
