Martin Ruhs debates education and immigration

1 March 2012

On 29 February Martin Ruhs joined a panel of experts to debate the impact of government immigration policy on UK universities.

Dr. Martin Ruhs was speaking at the event "Competing Globally: the impact of government immigration policy on UK universities". The event was organised by Universities UK.

He was joined by The Rt. Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, Glyn Williams, Head of Migration Policy, Home Office, and Professor Julia King, Vice-Chancellor, Aston University.

In addition to the impact of government immigration policy on the UK higher education sector, the debate also considered ways of securing an immigration system that targets abuse of the visa system without affecting the market, and how universities can continue to attract top-level academics.

The debate was broadcast live online, and a video of the debate will soon be available. The debate can be continued on Twitter, #HigherEdImmigration.
